It’s important to follow the proper brushing guidelines so you get the most out of your device and make sure that you’re receiving the right care for your teeth and gums. Unsure of how to properly use your new electric toothbrush? Follow these tips and brush your way to improved oral health:
Charge it up.
Make sure that your brush has enough power for the action needed to clean your teeth. Keep it in its holder each time so it’s always ready for the next brushing session.
Remember the 2-minute rule.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes. Simply let the brush do all the work while you hold it against your teeth.
Guide your toothbrush into the quadrants.
Dentists recommend dividing the mouth into 4 quadrants so you can clean each one for 30 seconds. For each section, cleanse the outside surface of the teeth and stay on each tooth for a few seconds before moving on to the next. Tilt the head to clean hard-to-reach areas in between teeth. Move the brush head along the inside surfaces and stay on the lower incisors for a bit because tartar tends to accumulate there. Lastly, guide the brush head on the chewing surfaces, and do remain for a bit on the molars.
Replace brush head regularly.
The bristles of your brush can wear out within 3 to 4 months of consistent use. To maintain optimal and efficient cleaning, replace the brush head routinely.
